A Simple Way to Spring Clean Your Life

What does it mean to you to spring clean your life?

Maybe it brings to mind giving your house a thorough spring clean:  clearing out the clutter, reorganizing cupboards, finally taking those give away bags to Goodwill.

I’m going to describe a tool that will help you look beyond the physical things in your home that could use a spring refresh and to think about how you could renew and revitalize your life in other areas as well.

BEST Model

In my Flourishing with Fibromyalgia Wellness Coaching Program I encourage my clients to take a comprehensive view of their life, a biopsychosocialspiritual approach.

This million-dollar word is a very formal way of describing my BEST model which helps the women I coach focus on well-being in 4 major areas:

  1. B for your Body and Physical Well-being
  2. E for your Emotional and Psychological Well-being
  3. S for your Social Well-being
  4. T for your Transcendent Spiritual Well-being

This perspective can give you a wholistic way of understanding what your precious Fibro body needs.

It helps in identifying and utilizing resources and tackling small, specific steps to help you take charge of your health and manage your fibromyalgia and chronic illness more effectively.

A simple approach is to ask yourself, what practices or resources am I already utilizing in these 4 areas? And what is one a new practice I would like to experiment with this spring?

A Simple Way to Spring Clean Your Life

To sum it up here are a few questions you can use to brainstorm about spring cleaning your life over the next few months.  Make a short list asking yourself:

  1. What is one thing I could stop doing?
  2. What is one thing I could do less of?
  3. What is one thing I could do more of?
  4. What is one thing I could I continue doing?
  5. What is one thing I could I start doing?
Now, take a look at your list.  Circle one action that inspires you, that would feel wonderful to accomplish.

What is the first, small, micro step to making this one thing happen?

Next, take a look at your calendar. Put that one small action step in your calendar and make a plan to follow through.

Then put on your observer hat.  Notice how easy or how difficult it was to achieve that small step.  Make adjustments as needed. After that first step has been accomplished go on to the next small step and so forth.

If you want to go a little deeper in determining what would support your health I created a BEST Self Assessment mini-workbook which you can access for free right HERE.  This is a great tool you can use to create your own action plan and focus for how you want to spring clean your life.
