Grow stronger and more resilient when facing adversity
When I think of resilience I often think of how a rubber band can be stretched yet when released is quickly regains its shape.
It bounces back!
I took this picture of these flowers in my yard AFTER they had survived a spring snow.
I was so impressed and inspired by how well they weathered that snowstorm.
These blooms demonstrate resilience in such a lovely way.
What words or images come to mind when you think of resilience?
One definition of resilience from the Institute of Coaching at McLean Hospital is that it is an intentional focus on plucking the positive experience out of a crisis.
We can ask ourselves what good can come about as a result of this adversity?
Here are some suggestions on how to avoid overwhelm by focusing on just a few strategies to help us build resilience:
REFRAME YOUR THOUGHTS:Â
Resilient people are realists but they don’t brood over things that cannot be changed. They look for small ways to tackle a problem and make changes that will help.
They see challenges as opportunities to develop new skills.
SEEK SUPPORT FROM OTHERS:Â
Having social support and people you can confide in is so important for our mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. It is easy to become overwhelmed and isolated when your fibromyalgia symptoms are not under control and then discouragement can set in.
FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL AND HAVE FUN WITH IT:Â
Resilience is a combination of factors that include facing reality, searching for meaning and improvising or finding new ways of doing things. ÂSearch for a sense of purpose during these hard times and cultivate a sense of zest and adventure as you do so.
I hope you feel inspired to look for ways you are already being resilient in your own precious Fibro Warrior life!
